Halo World Championship

Design: Team Flags
Concept Rounds

For this project, we utilized Red Giant's plugin Trapcode Form within After Effects to create dynamic cloth graphics. Our objective was to design team flags for the Halo World Championship, each flag flowing organically and embodying the pride of the teams and their fans.

We explored various textiles, evolving from traditional jersey and cotton to smart textiles and advanced fibers. Due to practical limitations, we settled on a blend featuring a thick pique texture and premium vinyl logos, striking a balance between functionality and aesthetic appeal.

Animation: Procedural Processes
Render Passes

In the animation process, render passes such as normal, amplitude, and final render play crucial roles in achieving a realistic depiction of organic materials within the limitations of After Effects.

Light Passes

The normal pass captures surface details like the team logo and lighting, while the amplitude pass adds depth and texture, where the fabric is also applied. The full render pass merges these elements for a seamless material representation. Meticulous planning and execution in compositing were key to achieving an organic and realistic.

Secondary Design: Streaming and Event

To align our broadcasts with the evolving landscape of Halo Esports in 2022, we undertook a redesign of our transitions and establishing graphics. This initiative aimed to refresh the visual identity, ensuring it was contemporary, engaging, and consistent with the enhanced and technological standards of the new Halo Infinite era in Halo esports.

Experimental Typography

In the initial production phase, my team and I conducted experiments to align the design with the Halo franchise, focusing on typography, motion, and Esports broadcasting. We incorporated 2D textures inspired by iconic Halo elements, such as glowing shields and plasma grenade bursts, to enhance visual storytelling and create a cohesive aesthetic.

Our design explorations culminated in a final 2D graphic for the team flags, where we opted to simplify textures for broadcast accessibility. However, we retained the plasma burst effect to integrate team names and logos with the Halo brand typography, ensuring a cohesive and recognizable visual identity.
